Visian ICL

Some patients are too nearsighted for LASIK or Epi-LASIK. Some can’t have any surgery on their cornea because of underlying irregular astigmatism. Finally some patient’s don’t have enough corneal thickness for laser vision correction.
Staar Surgical, INC, developed the Visian Intraocular Contact Lens (Visian ICL) for these patients over a decade ago. The Visian ICL is implanted behind the iris in a suture-free procedure that takes 5 minutes. Vision is restored almost immediately and patients have no visual fluctuation or regression over time.
The Visian ICL is made of a special biocompatible material known as Collamer. It has outstanding optical properties and has been used in millions of cataract surgeries. The Visian ICL is maintenance free and invisible to the naked eye.
Visual results have been so outstanding that some patients choose the Visian ICL over LASIK and Epi-LASIK. Patients like the complete absence of dry eye, glare, halos, and night driving difficulties. Some like the concept that the cornea is not being reshaped. Contrast sensitivity studies and wavefront analysis explain the incredible patient satisfaction with this refractive surgical technique.
James S. Lewis, MD, was the first surgeon in the Delaware Valley to insert the Visian ICL after FDA approval last year. Dr. Lewis trains other surgeons on the use of this special implant and lectures on its post-operative management.
Dr. Lewis is also the only surgeon in the region with a laser imaging device for Visian ICL surgical planning and management.
